What We Believe
I. God is Holy.
We believe in one true living God – the Creator of all things, holy, infinitely wise, perfectly just, limitlessly powerful, and full of unfailing love. He made all things for his glory and is to be treasured above all else.
Isaiah 6: 3-5
And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty … “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.”
II. We are Lost because of our Sin.
We believe we are tragically marred by an ingrained attitude of selfishness and disobedience. We are utterly incapable of undoing the effects of our sin.
As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous—not even
one. No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God. All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one.” “Their talk is foul, like the stench from an open grave. Their tongues are filled with lies.” “Snake venom drips from their lips.” … For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are … For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.
2 Thessalonians 1:8-9
He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might.
III. God loves us and sent Jesus to Save Us.
We believe that the death and resurrection of Jesus are God’s mightiest acts of redemption toward humanity.
1 Corinthians 15:1-5
Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Romans 3:24-26 (NLT)
– God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood … God … declares sinners to be right in his sight when they believe in Jesus.
IV. We Respond to Jesus “By Grace through Faith.”
We believe that in order to receive God’s salvation a person must make a conscious decision to turn from sin, placing their trust in Jesus, and demonstrating their commitment to Him through baptism (immersion).
We are saved …By “Grace” Through “Faith” For “Good Works” For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Baptism is like a Wedding Ceremony – a time when we express faith in Jesus through “repentance, “ “confession,” and “surrender of self” as a concrete commitment to God.
“Brothers, what shall we do?” Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
The Baptism Commitment in the Bible brings together:
The Head – repentance is a change of mind.
The Heart – confession expresses a belief of the heart.
The Hands – baptism is to surrender of the will.
V. We “Trust and Follow Jesus” as His Disciples.
We believe that following Jesus is the way to live and the opportunity of a lifetime, so we encourage everyone to embrace his way of life and commit to a lifetime of becoming like him in every way.
And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
~Matthew 4:19, ESV
VI. We Wait for the Fullness of Jesus’ Eternal Kingdom.
We believe that Jesus will fulfill his promise to return in order judge both the living and the dead. In the meantime, we live in a constant state of tension between the already and the not yet.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep (die), that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. (died) For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.
